Ernest Chan Tuck Yew is a full-time fine artist and educator who has received accolades locally and internationally. He has been exhibited at various institutions including the Singapore Art Museum’s President’s Young Talents Exhibition, The Esplanade, and the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. Ernest holds a Master of Fine Arts from Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Central England, Birmingham Institute of Arts and Designs, and a Diploma in Fine Art (Printmaking) at LASALLE

Ernest is currently a part-time lecturer at the Lasalle College of the Arts’ Fine Arts Faculty. He was a full time lecturer between 2000 and 2006 with the college also. In addition, Ernest was either a part-time or adjunct lecturer at the key art colleges such as the Nanyang Technological University ADM, NAFA, SOTA and Temasek Polytechnic . He has taught and mentored a number of artists in Singapore. Earnest was also a Teaching Artist mentoring teachers under the Artist Mentor Scheme by the Ministry of Education and National Arts Council’s partnership programme between 2015 - 2019. Under the scheme, Ernest guided visual arts teachers in both content and pedagogical knowledge necessary in a visual arts classroom. During his years as an educator, he was also the Vice-President and member of the Printmaking Society (Singapore).

Besides being a teacher and an artist, Ernest was also a program officer at the Esplanade between 2006 and 2008 curating exhibitions for local and regional artists under the Visual Arts Programming and curatorial team. Following the Esplanade experience, Ernest also co-curated projects including ‘1 x suitcase’, ‘Inside’, ‘from within’ and ‘some things that matter’ in addition to a number of student shows he had supported in the past.

Ernest has exhibited widely and has spoken on international platforms. He was an invited guest speaker at the Fifth Australian Print Symposium at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, and more recently, he was exhibited at the 8th International Printmaking Biennial of Douro 2016, Portugal. Ernest’s prints were selected for the Mondial De L’estampe Et De La Gravure Originale Triennale De Chamalières Printmaking Triennale in France in 2006; as well as in the 1st Macau Printmaking Triennial 2012. He had also been exhibited in Douro Portugal, Gdansk Poland, Chamalieres France, Birmingham, Cheltenham and Brighton UK, Manila, Yogyakarta, Hong Kong, Macau, Xi’an and Shanghai, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur Chiang Mai, Australia and Japan. Ernest's most recent solo show was with SEED the Art Space, exhibiting 100 of his miniature paintings.
